The challenge with designing music CD's is particularly interesting for Blacktop Founder, Tony Colombini. His style of collaborative design is perfectly fitted with branding for other creatives. At first we collaborate on the message of the music and develop a palette that is suitable for the musical artist and then interpret that into a story we call the package. Here are some sample of work we have done with Rock, and Jazz artists.

Music CD Design

pat_01Pat Hennessy, Triple Seven

PROJECT OVERVIEW
A local legend releases his first CD.
POSITIONING
Pat wanted his CD to have an edgy feel. It is a Christian Rock CD with inspiration from JimiHendrix.
OBJECTIVES
Corner shot all the photography and layed out the CD as well as designed his logo that was used on t-shirts.

sugardaddys_01The Sugar Daddys, Rock, Swing, Boogie Woogie Thing

PROJECT OVERVIEW
A local rock-a-billy, swing band makes a regional smash.
POSITIONING
The design was to mimic the 50's influence of Chuck Daniels-Gohr's awesome writing and energy.
OBJECTIVES
Colombini sourced all the illustrations and hired a Disneyland Characature artist to draw likeness of the band. This CD propelled this band to instant regional success before the band tragically split up. A bit later the founder started the band back up with new members and are currently touring throughout the southewest.

greg_01Greg Bishop, Fly Brother Fly

PROJECT OVERVIEW
A Classical Flutists, easy-listening, adult contemporary debut
POSITIONING
This CD is used to help Greg get more local gigs.
OBJECTIVES
Here the musician wanted to use a friends illustration for the cover. Colombini came with several designs to fit this illustration in. We decided on the fall leaf motif accented with the blue background to symbolize the coolness of the music.

joe_01Joe Sherbanee, The Road Ahead

PROJECT OVERVIEW
An Adult Contemporary record-breaking debut.
POSITIONING
Joe is a composer and created this CD with many acquaintences he has in the industry.
OBJECTIVES
The design reflects the eclectic and innovative texture of the music. All photographs of the artist were taken by Peter Samuels, and the others were shot by Tony Colombini.
