How I organically landed my client on the first page of Google in a highly competitive market.

I have hired a few “SEO Firms” in my day for various clients. They all preached the same thing. “I can get you on the first page of Google…” Sadly none of them worked. That got me thinking on how I can make it work. I learned a lot recently. There are two things that are going to get you to the top of a search engine. Actually, 3 things, but I don’t fall for the third. The first two are Relevancy and Consistency. The third is a whole bunch of money. In the competitive automotive wheel market, it’s a challenge. When you work for a small mom/pop manufacturer that doesn’t have a boatload of marketing dollars, you must be smart.

The key is to know what the search query people will use in searching for an answer to their problem. You need someone who is deep in the culture of your industry. Someone with the experience to know the proper terms, and slang used in that industry. A young media maven may be great at getting awareness of your brand to their followers, but in this case, you need expertise that comes with maturity. Fortunately my expertise comes from my passion in the automotive aftermarket with a familiarity in both the construction and food industries.

Landing on the First Page of Google: Step-by-Step

First step, I created a landing page on their website with relevant search query meta tags and descriptions for a specific product line. “Cadillac Wire Wheels“. I added links to their catalog pages of classic car wire wheels. Next, I created a video of making classic car wire wheels and uploaded it on their new YouTube channel. (remind me to tell you a story about how that worked).

Next was an email marketing campaign that shared the links to the specific targeted landing page as well as other relevant content.

Then I supported that video and landing page with social media posts. All organically. We did not pay a dime for “sponsored posts” or Google AdWords.

Within a month, we saw their listings go up from the 3rd page, 2nd page and now happily residing on the first page. Not at the top, but right below the behemoth big-dollar ad funded corporation. To maintain this standing, we regularly update the site, eNewsletter, and social posts.
