I have had clients recently say: “I want my marketing to reach everyone!” Here are some tips on why that is not the best strategy…

1) It’s Highly Ineffective
Trying to market to “everyone” a shotgun approach and does more harm than good. It usually requires interrupting people in their routine, and that interruption causes friction that does not connect with ANYONE.

2)  It’s Super-Expensive
At best you may get 1% lift from this approach. Even with high-ticket products or services this is a waste of resources.

3) It’s Susceptible To Overwhelm
Your marketing team will become overwhelmed with data that has zero relevance.

4) It’s Anti-Optimized
Search engine algorithms do not play well with irrelevant content. Campaigns such as this are ripe for spam filters and will not get to the target market.

I have dedicated the past dozen years focusing on the value of niche marketing and found these tips to success:

1) Highly Effective
When speaking directly to the target “in their voice” you connect better and are seen as a valuable resource.

2) Budget Value
When you target your marketing to a specific market, the cost per lead is dramatically decreased.

3) Focused Data
Your marketing team will find that data easier to digest and determine best practices quickly.

4) Optimized
Your message is more likely to get in-front of the target with relevant based algorithms.
